Nestled comfortably in the heart of the city’s CBD, The Ritz-Carlton, Bengaluru has, over the years, carved a niche for itself in the city’s ever expanding hospitality scape- be it with respect to it’s well-appointed rooms, the exemplary service, the wide range of F&B destinations, and the excellent food they serve.
What this hotel has also gained, is a reputation for is hosting some fantastic food events; flying down Chefs from their international properties and giving the city’s diners an experience that is unparalleled.
Recently, Chef Rami Almakt from The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai was in town to host a “Taste Of Arabia” festival, showcasing the very best of Middle-Eastern cuisine.
Chef Rami, who hails from Syria, is trained in classical French cuisine, and now heads the kitchens of Amaseena- the Arabic Bedouin tented dining experience at the Dubai property. Chef Rami’s style of cooking is deeply influenced by the use of fresh ingredients and keeping dishes as authentic as possible. He showcases authentic Syrian, Moroccan, Persian and Lebanese cuisines which are manifested in his robust tagines, delicate cous cous and captivating array of mezze.
For the special preview that I was privy to, the items included Mezze of Hummus, Mouhamara, Beetroot Mutabel, Eggplant Mutabel, Cous Cous and more along with an excellent offering of Cheese, Zatar and Mouhamara open-faced Manakish.
For the mains, a classic Chicken Shawarma with condiments kept us company. I must state that the shawarma I had was unlike anything that most of us are used to eating at late night eateries across this city- this was the REAL deal.
Spicy Potato with coriander, Moussaka, Harrak Espaoo for vegetarian and Shrimp Majboos, Iranian Lamb Stew and Chicken Kofta in the non-vegetarian selections for mains were deeply satiating.
Whilst I did not sample much from the desserts offering, a classic Um-Ali and Mouhalabih were too good to resist.
Overall, the dining experience was truly gratifying. This was my second experience of eating food offered as part of a festival headed by Chef Rami at this hotel. This is his forth visit to India and I will, like always, look forward to eating more of what he has to offer from his culinary repertoire.
